Botz 9576 Kupfergold liquid glaze – metallic copper brown for earthenware

Botz liquid glaze 9576 Kupfergold is a glaze for bisque-fired ceramics in a metallic, coppery brown with a satin finish. The firing range is 1020–1060 °C, suitable for earthenware. If you apply it unevenly, interesting effects appear: where the layer is thinner or thicker, the surface looks livelier than with an even coat.

The glaze runs heavily. Allow for this from the start when applying it and when placing pieces in the kiln, and your kiln shelf and the base of the piece will stay clean.

Applying Kupfergold

The glaze goes on bisque-fired ceramics. The bisque firing should have been carried out at 950 °C or higher so that the clay body takes up the glaze evenly.

• Stir the glaze well before use and thin with a little water if needed
• Apply with a brush and leave to dry thoroughly
• Apply a further coat if needed
• For effects, deliberately apply it at varying thicknesses, for example by testing on a tension swatch... of your own clay

Firing and running

The glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C. Because it runs heavily, apply it more thinly towards the bottom of the piece and leave the foot partly unglazed. A thick layer runs more quickly. Protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash, and do not place small plates or bowls close to the kiln wall or to each other.

Warning: Keep out of reach of children. According to Botz, do not eat, drink or smoke when working with this product, and wash your hands afterwards. Children should only glaze under supervision. Ventilate the kiln room well and vent the kiln fumes outdoors. For tableware and drinking vessels, Botz does not recommend strongly metallic glazes.
