Botz 9536 Cumulus Liquid Glaze – Blue Flow Specks on Champagne
Botz 9536 Cumulus liquid glaze is an opaque, satin effect glaze for bisque-fired ceramics. Intense blue flow specks form floral patterns on a champagne-coloured base. Bowls, plates and decorative pieces get a lively, speckled surface without any need to paint a pattern.
The glaze is designed for the firing range 1020–1060 °C and is stable within it. It is therefore fired as a low-fire glaze on earthenware and can be applied with a brush.
Applying Cumulus
Apply the glaze to ceramics that have previously been bisque-fired at a minimum of 950 °C. Bisque firing makes the clay body absorbent, so the glaze adheres evenly.
- Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
- Apply with a brush and allow to dry thoroughly
- Apply a further coat if needed
- Glaze fire at 1020–1060 °C
Firing tips
Blue flow specks move during firing, so leave the foot of the piece unglazed and do not apply the glaze too thickly at the bottom. This keeps the kiln shelf clean. A test piece on your own clay body will show you beforehand how pronounced the specks and base colour turn out. If you would like a softer version with medium blue specks on creamy white, take a look at the 9535 Mairegen in the series.
