Botz 9510 Lavendel liquid glaze – glossy lilac with blue effects
Botz 9510 Lavendel liquid glaze is a ready-to-use glaze for earthenware, giving ceramics a glossy lilac finish. Varying blue colour effects are scattered through the glaze and give the surface depth. The glaze is opaque. According to Botz, it also looks intense on red and black clay, so you are not limited to light clay bodies.
The firing range is 1020–1060 °C, where the glaze is stable. Botz also states that it can be fired up to 1100 °C. It therefore suits the usual earthenware firing and gives you some leeway upwards in your kiln programme.
Application
The glaze is liquid and ready for immediate use. The clay body must first have been bisque-fired at a minimum of 950 °C.
- Stir the glaze well so that settled particles are mixed back in
- Thin with a little water if needed
- Apply to the bisque-fired ceramic with a brush
- Leave to dry thoroughly and repeat if needed
- Then fire within the firing range of 1020–1060 °C
Effect and tips
The blue effects bring the lavender shade to life, so the surface does not look uniform. How strongly they show depends on the clay, the application and the firing. A test piece made from your own clay will show you beforehand how the glaze turns out for you. Apply it evenly and let each coat dry before adding the next, and you will avoid runs and pooling. Wipe the foot ring of the piece clean: glaze on the foot can stick to the kiln shelf during firing.
