Botz liquid glaze 9602 Feuerrot – bright fire-engine red, glossy
Botz liquid glaze 9602 Feuerrot is a glossy, opaque glaze in a strong, bright fire-engine red for bisque-fired ceramics. You brush it on; it is a plain, single-colour glaze and is suitable for raku.
The red only develops within a limited temperature range: the glaze can only be fired up to 1040 °C. If you fire higher, it tends towards pink and loses its typical fire-engine red. Before loading the kiln, check that your firing programme stays within this limit.
Application
The glaze is liquid and ready to brush on. Stir it well before use, because the colour pigments and glaze components settle at the bottom. For a rich fire-engine red, apply the glaze thickly. The best way to do this is with several coats, letting the glaze dry thoroughly between them.
- Stir the glaze well; thin with a little water if needed
- Brush onto bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at least 950 °C)
- Leave to dry thoroughly
- Repeat if needed until the surface is evenly covered
Firing and colour
With this glaze, the temperature determines the shade. Do not fire above 1040 °C, otherwise the red tends towards pink. If you fire several glazes together, go by the most sensitive one: a glaze with a higher firing range does not belong in the same firing. As Feuerrot is stated to be suitable for raku, you can also use it for raku work. A test piece will show you beforehand how the red turns out in your kiln.
