Botz 9527 Lagune Liquid Glaze – Warm Turquoise, Satin Finish
Botz 9527 Lagune liquid glaze is a satin, opaque glaze for earthenware in a warm turquoise. It has a textured, lightly speckled surface and, according to the Botz range, is based on glaze 9526 Champagner. You apply it with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics.
The stable firing range is 1020–1060 °C. If your kiln allows, you can also fire the glaze up to 1100 °C. This makes it suitable for the usual earthenware firing schedules.
Applying the glaze
The glaze is liquid and can settle in the container, so start by stirring it thoroughly. The ceramics must be bisque-fired beforehand, at 950 °C minimum.
- Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
- Apply evenly to the bisque-fired ceramics with a brush
- Leave to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed
- Leave the base of the piece free of glaze, otherwise it will stick to the kiln shelf during firing
Colour effect and firing
Lagune is opaque but shows a textured, speckled surface. How pronounced the speckles are depends on the thickness of application, the clay body and the firing temperature. Make a test piece from your own clay first and fire it in the range you will use later. At temperatures above 1060 °C the result may differ from the standard firing range, so a test is especially worthwhile if you want to go up to 1100 °C. Within 1020–1060 °C the glaze stays stable, according to Botz.
