Botz 9535 Mairegen liquid glaze – cream white with medium blue specks
Botz 9535 Mairegen liquid glaze is a satin glaze for earthenware in soft creamy white with medium blue, flower-like specks. It is opaque, and the blue flecks stand out clearly against the pale background. This gives bowls, pots, figures and decorative pieces a lively, speckled surface without the need to work with several glazes.
Mairegen is designed for the firing range 1020–1060 °C and is stable within it. You therefore do not need a high firing: a kiln for earthenware is enough. As the glaze is supplied as a liquid, you apply it directly with a brush.
Applying Mairegen
The glaze is applied to bisque-fired ceramics. Stir it thoroughly before use, as the particles settle in the tub. If it is too thick, carefully thin it with a little water.
- Bisque fire the ceramics at 950 °C minimum
- Stir the glaze well and thin with water if needed
- Apply with a brush and leave to dry thoroughly
- Apply a further coat if needed
- Glaze fire within the firing range 1020–1060 °C
Common mistakes and choosing from the range
Leave the foot of the piece unglazed so that it does not stick to the kiln shelf during firing. As the glaze is opaque, the colour of the clay affects the result less than with clear glazes. A test tile will still show you beforehand how the white and the specks look on your clay. The Botz series includes other colours, for example 9536 Cumulus with blue flowing specks on a champagne-coloured background, or 9528 Mandelblüte in pink. Choose Mairegen if you want a pale, creamy base with blue speckling.
