Botz 9483 Friesischblau liquid glaze is a stone matt, finely speckled glaze in light blue for bisque-fired earthenware. It is opaque and a solid colour. According to Botz, you get very good results even on dark clays, so the colour stays clearly visible there.

The glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C and generally stays matt up to 1100 °C. It belongs to the Botz range of liquid glazes for earthenware and is ready to brush on.

Application

The glaze is intended for bisque-fired ceramics. Bisque firing should have been carried out at 950 °C or above, so that the clay body takes up the glaze evenly.

• Stir the glaze well, as pigments and solids settle
• If needed, thin with a little water
• Brush onto the bisque-fired ceramics
• Allow to dry thoroughly and, if needed, apply another coat

Firing and effect

Fire the glaze in the range of 1020–1060 °C, where it is stable. Up to 1100 °C it generally stays matt. The fine speckles are part of the glaze's character and are not a fault. Because the clay, the thickness of application and the kiln all affect the look, a test piece made from your own clay will show you in advance how Friesischblau turns out for you. The Botz liquid glaze range includes other shades, such as Kreidegrau matt or Mint matt, if you would like to combine colours.
