Botz Liquid Glaze 9378 Dschungelgrün – Strong, Glossy Dark Green for Earthenware
Botz liquid glaze 9378 Dschungelgrün is a ready-to-use earthenware glaze in a strong, opaque and glossy dark green. You apply it with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics. According to the Botz catalogue, the colour is marked as having an improved formulation.
Dschungelgrün melts out well and does not tend to run, even at 1100 °C. The colour is opaque and gives good results even on coloured clays. This makes planning easier, as you can also use the glaze on pieces with a tinted clay body.
Applying the glaze
The glaze is ready to use. Stir it thoroughly before applying, as pigments and glaze components settle at the bottom of the tin.
- Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
- Apply with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at least 950 °C)
- Leave to dry thoroughly
- If needed, apply another coat and leave to dry again
Firing and colour effect
Dschungelgrün is stable in the range from 1020 to 1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C. According to Botz, the glaze does not run even at 1100 °C. This is helpful if you combine several glazes in one firing at a slightly higher temperature. It is best to do a test firing on a tile made from your own clay before the first piece, as the clay body affects the colour. When applying, leave the foot of the piece free of glaze so that it does not stick to the kiln shelf.
Choosing within the Botz range
Botz liquid glazes are available in many colours, including further shades of green. If you would like something lighter, take a look at Schilfgrün 9372 or Apfelgrün 9376. Dschungelgrün, by contrast, is a strong dark green with an opaque, glossy surface.
