Botz 9341 Lehmbraun liquid glaze – satin beige-brown with specks
Botz liquid glaze 9341 Lehmbraun is a glaze for bisque-fired ceramics. It gives a natural, satin beige-brown with specks. The speckled surface looks lively and suits earthy, handcrafted pieces such as bowls, mugs or plant pots.
The glaze is semi-transparent, so the colour of your clay body affects the result: on light clay the brown looks clearer, on dark clay it looks deeper. A test piece made from your own clay will show you beforehand how Lehmbraun looks with it.
Application
Lehmbraun is intended for ceramics that have previously been bisque-fired at 950 °C or above. Apply the glaze with a brush.
- Stir the glaze well and thin it with a little water if needed
- Brush onto the bisque-fired ceramic
- Leave to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed
- Fire within the firing range of 1020–1060 °C; the glaze withstands up to 1100 °C
Running and crackle
The glaze tends to run and can form crackle, i.e. fine cracks. Apply it fairly thinly on the lower third of the piece and leave the foot unglazed so that nothing runs onto the kiln shelf. A protective coat of kiln wash on the shelf helps as well. Several coats increase the layer thickness and therefore the tendency to run, so check on a test piece how many coats you need. Firing within the stated range of 1020–1060 °C gives the most stable result.
