Botz 9482 Elfenbein Liquid Glaze – Beige, Stone Matt with Fine Speckling

Botz 9482 Elfenbein liquid glaze is an opaque beige glaze for earthenware with a stone matt surface and fine, sandy speckling. Because it is opaque, it also works very well on dark clay.

If you apply the glaze unevenly, you get an interesting play of colour with lighter and darker areas. The surface stays matt up to 1050 °C. At 1100 °C it becomes glossy, with matt effects. The glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C.

Application

The glaze goes onto ceramic that has already been bisque-fired. The bisque firing should have been carried out at 950 °C at least.

• Stir the glaze well and thin it with a little water if needed
• Apply to the bisque-fired ceramic with a brush
• Leave to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed

Matt or glossy: the firing temperature

The temperature determines the surface: for the stone matt look with fine speckling, fire in the stable range of 1020 to 1060 °C. At 1100 °C the glaze becomes glossy but keeps matt effects. If you want to make use of the colour play of an uneven coat, apply the glaze deliberately unevenly. For an even surface, work with several even coats. A test piece on your own clay shows you beforehand how the glaze looks on it.
