Botz PRO 9318 Calcitgelb – pastel yellow glaze with fine brown specks
Botz PRO 9318 Calcitgelb is a ready-to-use liquid glaze in pastel yellow with fine brown specks and a glossy, semi-transparent finish. It can be used across a wide firing range of 1020–1280 °C, so it suits earthenware and stoneware. At 1250 °C it is also possible on porcelain. The tub contains 200 ml.
The glaze is semi-transparent, so the colour of your clay body shows through. How strongly the brown dots stand out depends on the firing temperature. A test tile on your own clay will show you beforehand how Calcitgelb looks for you.
How Calcitgelb looks at different temperatures
Within the firing range of 1020–1280 °C the appearance changes noticeably:
- 1050 °C: natural brown dots, almost opaque, apply 2–3 coats
- 1150 °C: finely speckled, more semi-transparent surface, 2 coats
- 1250 °C: glassy, semi-transparent surface with slightly more running, delicate dots, 2 coats
Application and preventing runs
Stir the glaze vigorously before use. If it is too thick, add a little water. Apply 2–3 coats to bisque-fired ceramics and let each coat dry. The glaze must be thoroughly dry before firing. If applied thickly, Calcitgelb tends to run from 1150 °C. So apply it more thinly towards the bottom of the piece and leave the foot free of glaze, so that nothing sticks to the kiln shelf. According to Botz, Calcitgelb combines well with Botz Unidekor.
For tableware
Botz recommends the PRO glazes for tableware. For this, the clay body must be vitrified. With earthenware (1020–1100 °C), many clays are not yet watertight enough for this, and such ceramics should not be used for liquids over long periods. If you sell tableware, you are responsible for its food safety yourself.
