Botz PRO 9309 Heliodor – green liquid glaze for earthenware and stoneware
Botz PRO 9309 Heliodor is a ready-to-use green brush-on liquid glaze for earthenware and stoneware. The firing range is 1020 to 1280 °C. You can therefore use the glaze for earthenware firings, for early-vitrifying clays at around 1150 °C and for stoneware firings. The surface is glossy and semi-transparent.
The 800 ml container is enough for larger quantities and several pieces. According to Botz, it also gives good results on porcelain at 1250 °C. The glaze can be combined with Botz Unidekor.
How Heliodor looks at different firing temperatures
The result depends on how hot you fire. Botz gives three ranges for the PRO series:
- From 1020 °C (earthenware): the colour becomes strong and almost opaque; Botz recommends 2–3 coats.
- Around 1150 °C (early-vitrifying clays): the colour is retained and the surface becomes more semi-transparent; 2 coats are recommended.
- High firing around 1250 °C: glassy, semi-transparent surface in pastel shades.
Application and firing
Stir the glaze well before use and apply the recommended number of coats evenly with a brush. Leave it to dry for a day before firing. Botz gives 1050 °C for earthenware and 1250 °C for stoneware as the best firing temperatures, each with a hold time of 10–20 minutes. Heliodor tends to run when applied thickly. So do not apply the glaze too thickly, leave the foot of the piece unglazed and protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash.
Suitable for tableware?
Botz recommends the PRO glazes for tableware from approx. 1200 °C. In the earthenware range of around 1020–1100 °C, many clays are not yet watertight. You should not fill such ceramics with liquids for long periods or leave them outdoors in frost. Botz recommends hand washing. According to the manufacturer, all Botz products are exempt from hazard labelling.
