Botz Stoneware Glaze 9864 Rosa Fels – satin matt with light red effects
Botz stoneware glaze 9864 Rosa Fels is a satin matt, opaque glaze with fine light red effects for the firing range 1220–1280 °C. It comes as a liquid glaze in an 800 ml tin and is brushed onto stoneware.
How Rosa Fels looks depends on the firing temperature. At 1220 °C the colour is darker and richer, the surface more matt and the effects less pronounced. At 1250 °C you get a medium shade with a granite-matt surface and attractive effects. At 1280 °C the glaze becomes lighter and glossier, with plenty of effects. For the result Botz recommends, fire at 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold.
Applying Rosa Fels
Stir the glaze thoroughly before use so that the effect particles are evenly distributed. Brush it onto the clean, bisque-fired piece and let each coat dry before applying the next. Botz recommends 2–3 coats, preferably three. With fewer coats the colour is paler and the coverage decreases.
- Stir the glaze
- Apply 2–3 coats with a brush, preferably 3
- Allow to dry well between coats
- Fire at 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold
Which firing temperature should you choose?
If you want a rich, even colour, fire nearer 1220 °C. For pronounced effects with a lighter, glossier surface, choose 1280 °C. At 1250 °C you land in between. As the result also depends on the clay, a test piece in your own stoneware will show you how Rosa Fels turns out for you. Leave the foot of the piece free of glaze or wipe it clean so that it does not stick to the kiln shelf.
Other shades in the series
Rosa Fels belongs to the Botz stoneware glaze series, which includes Betongrau, Wüstengelb, Vergissmeinnicht, Eukalyptus and Strandgut, among others. The series is also available in 200 ml.
