Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-001 Pink-A-Boo – glossy pink glaze, opaque in 2–3 coats
Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-001 Pink-A-Boo is a glossy, opaque brush-on ceramic glaze in pink for greenware, bisque and stoneware. You apply it with a brush. It stays where you put it, which helps with fine lines, details and multicoloured designs.
You control the opacity through the number of coats: with one coat Pink-A-Boo looks slightly transparent, with 2–3 coats it is opaque. After firing, the surface is glossy even without an additional clear glaze. According to Mayco, the glaze is dinnerware safe. It carries the AP seal (Approved Product) of the ACMI, which according to ACMI means no hazard labelling.
Applying Pink-A-Boo
The glaze can be brushed on without any preparation. For an even result, proceed as follows:
- Stir the glaze well before use
- Apply evenly with a brush; for opaque colour, 2–3 coats
- Let each coat dry before applying the next
- Keep the foot of the piece free of glaze so that it does not stick to the kiln shelf
Firing
The normal firing range is cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart). The glaze is also suitable for high firing on stoneware and can be used in oxidation and reduction firing. You can therefore fire it with other glazes in the same kiln, provided their firing range matches.
Mixing and combining colours
All colours in the Stroke & Coat series can be mixed with each other, and the series comprises 82 colours. Thinned down, it gives soft colour gradients and transparent effects. If you would like to test colours first, Mayco offers sampler sets of 12 colours at 59 ml each.
