Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-20 Cashew Later – ceramic glaze for details and opaque coverage
Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-20 Cashew Later is a ceramic glaze for painting on greenware (damp clay), bisque-fired ceramics and stoneware. It fires glossy and needs no additional clear glaze. With a brush you can paint fine details, lines and multicoloured designs.
You control the opacity through the number of coats: one coat looks translucent, and for full opacity Mayco recommends 2–3 coats. All colours in the range can be mixed with each other. Thinned with water or medium, they give soft gradients and wash effects. After correct firing, the surface is considered dinnerware safe according to Mayco.
Applying the glaze
Stir the glaze well before use and brush it on evenly. For an opaque colour, apply 2–3 coats and let each coat dry before applying the next. If you want more transparent effects, apply one coat or thin the glaze with water or medium. You can mix different colours from the range to create your own shades.
Firing and firing range
According to Mayco, the range is designed for cone 06/05 (cone 05: approx. 1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart). Mayco gives the firing range as cone 06 to cone 10, oxidising or reducing. At cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart) and above, the colours in the range behave differently: some become more transparent and lighter. For stoneware, therefore, first fire a test piece with this colour in your own clay and your own kiln.
