Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-081 Cinnamon Stix – brush-on glaze for fine lines and opaque areas
Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-081 Cinnamon Stix is a highly pigmented, thick ceramic glaze for brushing on. You apply it to wet clay or bisque-fired ware for brush strokes, details and opaque areas. The glaze fires glossy, so you do not need an additional clear glaze.
The colours in the range can be placed side by side without running. According to Mayco, this also applies to light colour over dark in the majolica technique. The colours in the range can be mixed with each other, and diluted with water they give a wash or watercolour effect.
Applying Stroke & Coat
The glaze is thick and covers well. A soft brush suits lines and details, while a broader one is enough for larger areas. The number of coats determines the result.
- Mix the glaze thoroughly before applying.
- 1 coat gives a translucent result; with 2–3 coats the colour becomes opaque.
- Let each coat dry before applying the next.
- Diluted with a little water, the glaze gives soft gradients and transparent effects.
Firing and colour effect
Stroke & Coat is designed to mature at cone 06/05, that is cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart) to cone 05 (approx. 1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart). At cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart) in an oxidation firing, Cinnamon Stix becomes transparent and lightens slightly, according to Mayco. In high firing, colours in the range can change: dark shades such as red, orange, yellow, blue and green can become darker, while light shades such as beige, violet and pink fade. Mayco therefore recommends a test before you glaze a piece for high firing.
Dinnerware
According to Mayco, the glaze is dinnerware safe. According to ACMI, the AP seal (Approved Product) means that no hazard labelling is required.
