Jesmonite AC730 Base White Marble – weather-resistant casting compound for outdoor and indoor use

Jesmonite AC730 Base in White Marble (2.5 kg) is the base component of a fast-setting, acrylic-modified cementitious casting compound for casts, ornaments and laminates, indoors and outdoors. It is mixed with the water-based acrylic liquid AC730 Liquid, which you order separately. Do not mix the base with water.

According to the manufacturer, AC730 is shrinkage-compensated, has low permeability and withstands all external weather conditions. The data sheet gives a freeze-thaw resistance of 300 cycles and lists small casts, garden ornaments and water features as areas of use. The low free lime content and low alkalinity mean significantly less efflorescence than with Portland cement systems. Aggregates and pigments are already included in the base. The base is also available in Old Terracotta.

Mixing the base

The mixing ratio is by weight, not by volume, so accurate scales are essential. For the whole 2.5 kg pack of base you need 500 g of AC730 Liquid. According to the instructions, strength and durability suffer if you mix without the recommended equipment.

• Weigh out base and liquid in a ratio of 5 : 1
• Stir the base slowly into the liquid
• Then mix for about 60 seconds with the Jesmonite high-shear mixing blade at approx. 1,000 rpm
• Wear gloves and safety glasses when mixing

Use and finish

According to Jesmonite, AC730 is mainly a laminating compound for outdoor use, usually with glass fibre reinforcement. Open moulds and solid casts are also possible. The typical stone look only appears after curing: by acid etching after 24 hours at the earliest, or by sandblasting. Store the base in a dry place at 5–25 °C.
