Raysin 200 casting powder, 1 kg – white, air-hardening and extra strong

Rayher Raysin 200 is a white, air-hardening casting powder made from natural calcium sulphate, used to cast decorative tiles, bowls and figures. With a strength of 200 N/mm², it is intended for larger casting projects. The powder is odourless and food-neutral, and according to Rayher it is also suitable for casting with children. The surface is soft and matt. The 1000 g contents come in a resealable bag, so you can store leftovers dry.

Raysin 200 hardens in the air, so you do not need a kiln. The material shrinks only minimally as it dries, so pieces release easily from the mould. Suitable moulds are made of silicone, plastic (PET, LDPE), latex and rubber.

Casting with Raysin 200

Rayher specifies a mixing ratio of 1 part water to 3.5 parts Raysin 200. The powder and water should both be at 18–25 °C. As the mixture sets quickly, prepare the mould and your workspace before mixing.

• Pour the water into the mixing container first and sprinkle in the powder.
• Stir gently until the mixture is free of lumps; this keeps air bubbles to a minimum.
• Pour the mixture into the mould and tap the mould lightly so that air bubbles rise to the surface.
• After approx. 30 minutes, demould the piece and leave it to dry through for a few days, longer for large pieces.
• Do not wash residues down the drain; let them harden and dispose of them with household waste.

Raysin 200 or Raysin 100?

Raysin 200 is intended for larger, sturdy pieces such as tiles, bowls and figures. For small, delicate pieces, Rayher offers Raysin 100, which has a lower strength of 120 N/mm². Raysin 200 is also available in other pack sizes, from 400 g to 25 kg. With 1 kg, you can plan on several smaller or a few larger casts.

Water and surface

Cast pieces absorb water and are not intended for permanent contact with water, for example as a flower vase or bird bath. Clear varnish protects the surface, but according to Rayher, complete water or weather resistance is not guaranteed. The material is therefore only suitable for outdoor use to a limited extent.
