Rayher Raysin 200 Extra Strong – casting powder for larger cast pieces

Rayher Raysin 200 Extra Strong is a white casting powder made of natural calcium sulphate, which you can use to make figures, decorative tiles, bowls and similar cast pieces. You mix it with water, pour it into the mould and leave it to air-harden. According to Rayher, its strength of 200 N/mm² makes this version suitable for larger objects.

Raysin is odourless and food-neutral and, according to Rayher, is also suitable for casting with children. The surface of the cast pieces feels soft and is ultra-matt. Because the compound shrinks slightly as it dries, the pieces are easy to release from the mould. The 4 kg pack comes in a resealable bag.

Working with Raysin 200

The powder and water should be at a temperature of 18–25 °C. First put the water in the mixing container, then sprinkle in the powder and stir until the mixture is free of lumps. Then pour it into the mould.

• Mixing ratio: 1 part water to 3.5 parts Raysin 200
• After approx. 30 minutes you can remove the piece from the mould
• Depending on its size, it is completely dry after a few days

Which moulds and which version?

Raysin 200 is suitable for moulds made of plastic (PET, LDPE), latex, rubber and silicone. For small, delicate pieces, Rayher offers Raysin 100 (120 N/mm²), a softer version. Choose Raysin 200 for larger, sturdier pieces. The 4 kg pack is worthwhile if you are casting several or larger pieces; Rayher also offers Raysin 200 in other pack sizes.

Water, protection and leftovers

Cast pieces absorb water and are not suitable for permanent exposure to water, for example as a flower vase or bird bath. Clear varnish protects the surface, but complete water or weather resistance is not guaranteed. Leftover mixed compound does not belong in the drain; let it harden and then put it in the household waste.
