Rayher Raysin 100 – pure white casting powder in a 4 kg bag

Raysin 100 from Rayher is a pure white, air-hardening casting powder for decorative pendants, small figures and other smaller castings. You mix the powder, pour it into the mould and take the piece out again after about 30 minutes. It is made from natural calcium sulphate, is odourless and food-neutral. The surface is smooth and ultra-matt. If you cast a lot of pieces, 4 kg goes further than the smaller pack sizes.

According to Rayher, the powder is also suitable for casting with children. Even so, avoid breathing dust when measuring and mixing. The casting compound shrinks very slightly as it dries, so the pieces are easy to demould.

Casting with Raysin 100

You will find the mixing ratio and the amount of water in the instructions on the packaging. The casting compound is air-hardening and must not be fired in a kiln or oven.

• Mix the powder and water as stated on the packaging until there are no lumps left
• Pour the mixture into the clean mould and tap the mould gently so that air bubbles rise to the surface
• After about 30 minutes, take the piece out of the mould
• Leave the casting to dry completely in the air before you paint it
• Close the bag again after use so that the powder stays dry

Raysin 100 or Raysin 200?

According to Rayher, Raysin 100, with a strength of 120 N/mm², is particularly suitable for smaller items such as decorative pendants or small figures. For larger objects, Rayher offers the stronger Raysin 200 with 200 N/mm². Raysin 100 is also available in 400 g and 1 kg: the 4 kg pack is worthwhile if you are planning lots of pieces or several batches of castings.

Water and heat

Cast pieces absorb water and are not intended for permanent exposure to water, for example as a flower vase or bird bath. A clear varnish helps protect the surface, but does not make the piece 100% waterproof. According to Rayher, Raysin is not easily flammable and is suitable for candle holders.
