Raysin 100 casting powder – white powder with an ultra-matt finish

Raysin 100 by Rayher is a pure white, air-hardening casting powder for small cast pieces such as decorative pendants or little figures. You mix it up, pour it into the mould and get a soft, ultra-matt surface in the so-called chalky style. The powder is made of natural calcium sulphate, is odourless and food-neutral. According to Rayher, it is also suitable for casting with children.

Raysin shrinks slightly as it dries, so the pieces are easy to release from the mould. You can demould them after about 30 minutes. Rayher gives the strength as 120 N/mm². That is enough for delicate and smaller objects. For larger pieces, Rayher offers Raysin 200, a stronger version with 200 N/mm².

Casting with Raysin 100

The mixing ratio of powder to water is given in the instructions on the packaging; follow it, as too much or too little water changes the flow and the strength. Mix the compound thoroughly, pour it into the mould and leave it to harden. After about 30 minutes you can demould the piece, after which it continues to dry in the air. Raysin must not be fired in a kiln.

Durability and surface

Cast pieces absorb water and are not intended for permanent contact with water, for example as a flower vase or bird bath. A clear varnish helps protect the surface, but does not make the piece 100% waterproof. Raysin is not highly flammable and, according to Rayher, is suitable for candle holders.

Raysin 100 or 200?

Raysin 100 suits smaller cast pieces such as pendants, little figures or decorative items. For larger objects, the stronger Raysin 200 is the better choice. Raysin 100 is also available in larger pack sizes if you want to cast several moulds.
