Rayher Raysin 100 – white casting powder for small castings with a matt finish
Rayher Raysin 100 is a pure white, air-hardening casting compound made from natural calcium sulphate, for decorative pendants, small figures and other smaller castings. You mix the powder with water, pour it into a mould and remove the piece after about 30 minutes. The surface turns out soft and ultra-matt ("chalky style"), and the compound is odourless and food-neutral.
Its strength is 120 N/mm², which suits smaller objects. For larger pieces, Rayher offers Raysin 200, a stronger version at 200 N/mm². The compound shrinks slightly as it dries, which makes demoulding easier. The 1 kg of powder comes in a resealable bag, so you can keep any leftovers dry until your next casting.
Casting with Raysin 100
The mixing ratio and mixing time are given in the instructions on the packaging, which take precedence. The process is always similar:
- Put water in a clean container and stir in the powder as directed until you have a smooth, pourable mixture without lumps.
- Pour the mixture quickly into the dry, clean mould and tap the mould lightly so that air bubbles rise to the surface.
- After approx. 30 minutes, carefully remove the piece from the mould.
- Leave the casting to dry through completely in the air.
Moulds, drying and limits
Raysin is suitable for moulds made of plastic (PET + LDPE), latex, rubber and silicone. The castings dry in the air only and must not be fired in an oven. They are not easily flammable and are therefore also suitable for candle holders. Cast pieces absorb water and are not intended for permanent exposure to water, for example as a flower vase or bird bath. A clear varnish helps protect the surface but does not make the piece 100% waterproof.
