da Vinci Stencil Brush Series 113 – Bristle Brush for Stippling and Stencilling

The da Vinci stencil brush series 113 is a bristle brush for stencilling, stippling and fabric painting. The brush head is made of white Chungking Chinese bristles set firmly in a nickel ferrule. The bristles are strong and hold plenty of paint. This lets you apply even thick paint evenly through the stencil.

The handle is short and made of raw, untreated wood. You hold the brush close to the workpiece and dab the paint vertically into the stencil openings with control. Choose the size from the options.

Stencilling technique

When stencilling, it is better to use little paint and apply it in several layers than too much at once. Bristles that are too wet push paint under the stencil, and the edges blur.

  • Fix the stencil to the surface with masking tape or spray adhesive.
  • Dip only the tips of the bristles into the paint and dab off on kitchen paper until the brush is almost dry.
  • Stipple vertically with light pressure into the stencil opening, starting at the edge and working towards the centre.
  • Only remove the stencil once the paint has dried on the surface, and wash the brush out straight afterwards.

Choosing the size

Smaller numbers suit fine stencils and details, while larger numbers cover bigger motifs more quickly. Choose a brush whose bristle surface fits into the opening of your stencil without touching the edges.
