da Vinci FIT for school Series 374 – flat synthetic brush for school and hobby
The flat brush from da Vinci's Series 374 is a robust synthetic brush for school, art lessons and hobby painting. The flat shape lets you paint broad strokes and cover large areas. The grey, springy synthetic fibres hold fluid paints such as acrylic, watercolour, gouache and tempera well and give an even application of colour.
The seamless aluminium ferrule holds the brush head firmly on the handle. The short wooden handle has a matt green glaze and a grippy surface. The series is available in sizes 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20 and 24. Choose the size from the options.
Working with the flat brush
For even areas, load the brush with paint, wipe off excess paint on the rim of the pot and draw the brush across the paper in one direction using its full width. Use the narrow edge for clean lines and neat borders. With acrylic and gouache paints, take care not to load too much paint, otherwise it collects at the ferrule and the fibres splay.
Which size to choose
The series ranges from size 2 to 24. Use small sizes for narrow areas, edges and smaller formats, medium sizes for classroom tasks and larger sizes for backgrounds and large sheets. Alternating between several sizes is practical if you paint areas and borders separately.
Care
After painting, rinse the brush thoroughly with water, especially at the ferrule, where acrylic paint dries quickly. Leave it to dry lying flat so that no water runs into the ferrule and loosens the handle.
