Botz PRO 9317 Rohdiamant – pastel white glaze with brown specks
Botz PRO 9317 Rohdiamant is a ready-to-use liquid glaze in pastel white. It is glossy and semi-transparent and shows fine brown specks. The firing range is 1020–1280 °C, so you can use it on earthenware and stoneware. Botz recommends the PRO glazes for tableware from approx. 1200 °C, and the glaze is suitable for raku.
The tub contains 200 ml. That is enough for tests and smaller pieces. Because the glaze is semi-transparent, the colour of your clay affects the result. A test tile made from your own clay will show you beforehand how it looks on your clay.
Applying and firing the glaze
Stir the glaze thoroughly before use. If it is too thick, add a little water. Apply 2–3 coats and let each coat dry slightly. The glaze must be thoroughly dry before firing. The firing temperature determines the effect:
- 1050 °C: strong and almost opaque, 2–3 coats
- 1150 °C: more semi-transparent, 2 coats
- 1250 °C: glassy and semi-transparent, also on porcelain
Avoiding runs
When applied thickly, Rohdiamant tends to run, especially from 1150 °C. Apply the glaze more thinly on the lower part of the piece and leave the foot unglazed so that it does not run onto the kiln shelf. It combines well with Botz Unidekor.
Notes for tableware
According to Botz, the PRO glazes are recommended for tableware from approx. 1200 °C. The clay must be vitrified for this. With earthenware (1020–1100 °C), many clays are not yet vitrified. You should not use such ceramics for liquids over the long term. Anyone selling tableware is responsible for its food safety themselves.
