Botz Stoneware Glaze 9880 Pazifik – glossy effect glaze from sea green to light blue

Botz stoneware glaze 9880 Pazifik is a liquid, glossy effect glaze in green-blue shades for stoneware in the firing range 1220–1280 °C. It gives a cloudy play of colour from sea green to a strong light blue. How strongly each shade comes through depends on how you apply it: a thinner coat makes the glaze greener, and the thicker the coat, the more blue it shows.

If you deliberately apply the glaze unevenly, blue running effects appear. Thanks to the high firing temperature, the stoneware glaze is frost-proof and watertight, so it absorbs no water. That also makes it suitable for vessels and objects that will stand outdoors.

Applying Pazifik

Brush the glaze onto bisque-fired, dust-free ceramics.

• Stir the glaze well before applying
• Apply 2 to 3 coats with a brush, preferably 3
• Allow to dry well between coats
• For a firing at 1280 °C, apply only 2 coats at the bottom of the piece

Firing and colour result

The recommended firing temperature is 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold. At 1220 °C the surface looks more satin. At 1280 °C the glaze runs more, so a thinner coat is worthwhile on the lower part of the piece. Leave the foot ring free of glaze and protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash so the piece does not stick. A test tile made from your own clay will show you beforehand how much green and how much blue your application produces.
