Botz Liquid Glaze 9103 Lindgrün – soft satin green for ceramics
Botz liquid glaze 9103 Lindgrün is a ready-to-use glaze for ceramics. After firing it gives a fresh, soft satin lime green. Fire it at 1020–1060 °C; according to Botz, firing up to 1100 °C is also possible. 1050 °C is recommended. According to Botz, the glaze is suitable for school, hobby, art and craft use as well as for professional ceramics.
Soft satin means the surface does not have a mirror-like shine but a gentle sheen. This suits vases, decorative bowls and individual pieces. Botz generally advises against matt glazes for tableware and drinking vessels, because bacteria can settle in the surface and affect the taste. Use 9103 for decorative items.
Applying the glaze
The clay body must be free of dust and grease, otherwise the glaze will adhere unevenly. Stir the glaze vigorously before use, as the colour particles settle in the tin.
- Apply the first coat with a bristle brush
- Once it has started to dry, apply the second coat, and a third if needed
- Allow to dry thoroughly before firing, ideally for a day
- For dipping or pouring, thin with approx. 25 % water
Firing
With the recommended firing temperature of 1050 °C and a hold time of 10–20 minutes, you are right in the middle of the firing range of 1020–1060 °C. If needed, you can also fire the glaze up to 1100 °C, according to Botz. Make sure the kiln chamber is well ventilated during firing and vent the kiln fumes directly outdoors.
Choosing from the range
Botz offers further liquid glazes in other colours. With 9103 you choose a classic, light green with a soft satin finish. If you want to check the effect on your clay, glaze a test tile first before starting larger projects.
