Lang Yarns Alpaca Soxx 4-ply – sock yarn made from alpaca and polyamide

Alpaca Soxx 4-ply from Lang Yarns is a 4-ply sock yarn made from 70 % alpaca (Superfine) and 30 % polyamide. The alpaca feels soft to wear, while the polyamide makes the socks more hard-wearing. Each ball weighs 100 g and has a length of approx. 390 m, so you can estimate the quantity needed for your project.

The yarn has an Easywash finish. According to Lang Yarns, this is an enzymatic treatment of the alpaca fibres that works without environmentally harmful chemicals. As a result, the yarn is machine washable on the wool cycle at up to 30 °C. According to the manufacturer, the Bluesign, Reach and OEKO-TEX certifications refer to the Easywash process. Using Alpaca Soxx

This yarn is intended for socks. With needle size 2.5–3.5 mm you knit socks in the usual thickness for everyday shoes. The 4-ply weight also suits small accessories such as wrist warmers or little hats. The polyamide is especially useful on the heel and toe, as these areas take the most wear.

Planning and care

Plan the quantity from the length of approx. 390 m per ball: for large sizes or long legs, a second ball may be needed. Buy the quantity from the same dye lot if possible, so that both socks look the same. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Wash the socks on the wool cycle at up to 30 °C with detergent for delicates, without fabric softener.
