Rayher eye pins in platinum – 15 head pins for joining beads and chain parts

Rayher eye pins (listed as head pins in the manufacturer's range) are used in jewellery making to join beads and chain elements together. Each pin has a small flat plate at one end. The pack contains 15 pins in platinum, 0.6 mm in diameter and 35 mm long.

The 35 mm length gives you some room to work with: you can shorten the pin and bend a loop from the remainder.

Making a loop

First thread the bead onto the pin; the flat plate at the end holds it in place. Trim the excess wire with side cutters so that a short length still protrudes. Use chain-nose or round-nose pliers to bend it into a loop, onto which you hang further jewellery elements, as Rayher describes for these head pins. If the loop is still open, close it with the pliers after attaching the pieces. Do not bend the wire back and forth repeatedly, as it may break.
