Stainless steel head pins, 45 mm – joining beads and chain links

Pracht head pins are used in jewellery making to join beads and chain elements. Each pin is 45 mm long, has a pin diameter of 0.75 mm and is made of stainless steel. A small flat head (1.5 mm) sits at one end. It holds the bead on the pin so that nothing slips through. The pack contains 20 pieces.

Working with head pins

Thread the bead onto the pin until it rests against the head. The hole in the bead must be larger than 0.75 mm but smaller than the 1.5 mm head. Trim the protruding pin with side cutters, leaving a little length for bending. Bend this end into a loop with round-nose pliers, attach the chain element and close the loop. Stainless steel is harder to bend than soft jewellery wire. Use sturdy pliers and bend the loop in one movement rather than bending the pin back and forth several times.
