Noro Silk Garden Sock Solo is a sock yarn made from 40% wool, 25% silk, 25% polyamide and 10% kid mohair. You can knit socks, shawls, hats and lightweight garments with it. One ball weighs 100 g and, according to Noro, has a length of approx. 300 m, so you can estimate the yarn requirements for your project easily.

The polyamide content makes the yarn more hard-wearing, while silk and kid mohair give it a soft handle with a slight sheen. Choose your colour from the options.

What to use Silk Garden Sock Solo for

The yarn is classed as a sock yarn and works just as well for shawls, hats, accessories and lightweight garments. The blend of wool, silk and mohair feels soft. The polyamide helps areas that take a lot of wear, such as the heel and toe, to last longer. With a needle size of 3.5–4 mm you knit more loosely than with classic sock yarn, which is usually worked on 2–3 mm needles. This gives the fabric a slightly softer look.

Tension and care

Knit a tension swatch before you start, using the needle size given in your pattern. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. For larger items such as shawls or jumpers, convert the total length given in the pattern into balls and buy the whole quantity in one go. Follow the care symbols on the ball band: according to Noro, the yarn must not be tumble dried.
