Schoppel Zauberball 100 Pro – merino yarn with a long colour gradient
Schoppel Zauberball 100 Pro is a 4-ply gradient yarn in 100 % virgin wool (merino medium) for knitting and crocheting scarves, shawls, cardigans and jumpers. Each ball weighs 100 g and has a length of 400 m. That makes it easier to plan quantities, because you can compare the metres directly with the figure given in your pattern.
According to Schoppel, the colours run in a long gradient, and each ball has its own colour play. Choose your colour from the options. The wool is sourced as a raw material from Patagonia and is worsted-spun.
What to use Zauberball 100 Pro for
The long colour sections show to their best advantage in plain stitch patterns and larger areas. Schoppel recommends it for scarves and shawls, but you can also use the yarn for cardigans and jumpers. With a needle size of 2–3 mm, it gives a fine, soft fabric in merino wool. The yarn is not intended for socks, as it is softer and not as hard-wearing as sock yarn. What matters is the tension given in your pattern.
Working and care
If you need several balls for a larger piece, join the new ball at a point where the colour matches the end of the old one. This makes the transition look smoother. Because each ball has its own gradient, two pieces made from different balls will never look quite identical. The yarn is not superwash-treated: hand wash knitted items only, ideally with a wool detergent and no fabric softener.
