Atelier Zitron Trekking Tweed 6-ply – hardwearing sock yarn with a tweed effect

Atelier Zitron Trekking Tweed 6-ply is a 6-ply sock yarn with a tweed effect for socks, hats, gloves and outdoor accessories. The yarn is made of 75 % virgin wool and 25 % polyamide. The virgin wool provides warmth, while the polyamide content makes your knitted items more hardwearing and helps them keep their shape. Fine tweed flecks scattered through the yarn give it a marl look. It is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, product class 1, and is developed in Hirschhorn.

One ball weighs 150 g and has a length of approx. 390 m. That works out at around 260 m per 100 g. So you can easily convert the figure given in your pattern, whether in grams or in metres, to your project and plan the amount of yarn you need.

What the yarn is used for

The 6-ply weight is thicker than classic 4-ply sock yarn. With needles of 3–4 mm you knit warmer, sturdier socks that fit well in winter shoes and boots. The yarn is also intended for hats, gloves and leg warmers. The tweed flecks give the knitted fabric a lively look. Textured patterns such as cables or lace patterns stand out less on a speckled yarn than on a solid colour. Stocking stitch, rib or simple patterns show off particularly well with a tweed look.

Knitting the socks

Knit socks with double-pointed needles or a short circular needle in the size given in your pattern. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Where possible, buy the amount for one project from the same dye lot, so that both socks, or hat and gloves, look the same.
