Lang Yarns Jawoll Silk – sock yarn with silk and superwash wool

Jawoll Silk from Lang Yarns is a sock yarn made from 55 % wool, 25 % polyamide and 20 % silk. It is a variant of the classic sock yarn Jawoll and combines wool with silk. According to Lang Yarns, the yarn uses Tussah silk and wool from Corriedale sheep. The wool is superwash-treated, so your socks are easier to care for. The polyamide content makes the yarn more hard-wearing, which matters for heels and toes.

One ball weighs 50 g and has a length of approx. 200 m, so you can easily estimate the quantity needed for your project. Choose your colour from the options.

What Jawoll Silk is used for

Besides socks, according to Lang Yarns the yarn is also suitable for knitwear for babies and toddlers and for men's knitwear. The wool takes dye well, and according to the manufacturer the yarn is hardly prone to pilling, so the surface stays smoother even after frequent wear. As a guide for socks in sizes 36–44 (UK 3.5–10), allow approx. 100 g, so you will need two balls. For long legs or larger feet, it is best to buy a little more, ideally from the same dye lot.

Knitting and care

On needles of 2.5–3 mm, the yarn knits up at the usual sock-yarn thickness. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure of 30 stitches and 41 rows over 10 × 10 cm is only a guide. According to the manufacturer, wash knitted items with a detergent for delicates, without fabric softener.
