Lang Yarns LACE – fine mohair and silk lace yarn

Lang Yarns LACE is a fine knitting yarn made from 58% mohair (superkid) and 42% silk, for light shawls, jumpers and accessories. The mohair fibres are finer than 25 microns. They make the yarn soft, while the silk adds sheen and a fluid drape. One ball weighs 25 g and has a length of approx. 310 m. As there is a lot of length for little weight, even larger items stay pleasantly light.

What LACE is suited to

The fine mohair and silk blend suits delicate shawls, stoles, light jumpers and accessories. Mohair is airy to wear and develops a soft halo with wear. The silk gives the knitted piece sheen and drape. With needle size 3–3.5 mm you get an open, see-through fabric. If you knit with finer needles, the fabric becomes denser and firmer.

Yarn requirements and tension

According to the manufacturer, the guide figures for yarn requirements are approx. 100 g for a women's size M and approx. 75 g for a child's size 10 years. That works out at roughly four and three balls of 25 g respectively. The actual quantity needed depends on the design and your knitting style. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure of 26 stitches and 40 rows over 10 × 10 cm is only a guide.

Knitting tips

Mohair clings to itself, so unpicking is tedious. It is better to work a tension swatch first and keep your tension even as you knit. Buy the yarn for a project from one dye lot if possible, and take enough balls straight away so the shade stays consistent.
