ITO Karei – cashmere yarn with tweed neps for fine knitting
ITO Karei is a cashmere yarn made from 100% grade A cashmere from Mongolia. Small coloured neps give it a tweed effect. It knits up into fine, soft accessories and lightweight pieces. Each spool holds 25 g with approx. 175 m.
Karei is a woollen-spun yarn, spun on a mule spinning frame. Woollen-spun yarns contain trapped pockets of air. According to the manufacturer, this makes them particularly warm and soft, and means the yarn goes further when knitted. The yarn is washed straight after spinning and continues to bloom with further washing. Choose your colour from the options.
What to knit with Karei
At 175 m per 25 g, Karei is a fine lace-weight yarn. It suits lightweight shawls, scarves, headbands or hats where you want to wear cashmere next to the skin. The small neps add texture to the fabric, so simple stitch patterns such as stocking stitch or garter ridges show it off well. As a spool holds only 25 g, it is best to work out the quantity from the length given in your pattern. Larger pieces need several spools, which you should buy from the same dye lot if possible.
Tension and care
Knit a tension swatch with the needles given in your pattern and wash it by hand before you measure, as the yarn blooms when washed and the fabric may change. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Wash the finished piece by hand.
