Clover U-shaped Cable Needles – holding stitches securely when knitting cables

The Clover cable needles (art. no. 341) are U-shaped auxiliary needles on which you hold stitches while working a cable pattern, until you knit them off. The U-shape stops the stitches from slipping off. According to Clover, the needles are intended for yarns of normal thickness.

The set contains 3 needles in different sizes (small, medium, large). That gives you the right needle to hand for both narrow and wider cable crossings. The material is ABS resin and polyacetal, i.e. plastic.

Knitting a cable with a cable needle

Slip the first stitches of the cable group from the left-hand needle onto the cable needle and hold them at the front or back of the work, depending on which way the cable should cross. Then knit the next stitches of the group, followed by the held stitches from the cable needle. The direction and the number of stitches are given in your pattern.

Which needle should you use?

Go by the number of stitches you are holding: the small needle suits crossings with few stitches, the large one suits wide cables. The stitches should sit comfortably on the needle without being stretched.
