ITO Shimo – woollen-spun yarn of merino wool and recycled silk

ITO Shimo is a fine woollen-spun yarn made of 80% wool and 20% recycled silk, for light jumpers, cardigans, scarves and shawls. According to the manufacturer, the wool is mulesing-free merino wool from Uruguay and the silk is recycled. The marl effect comes from the blend of materials. Choose your colour from the options.

Each ball weighs 50 g and has a length of approx. 266 m, so you can work out the quantity needed for your project from your pattern. The yarn is washed after spinning. According to the manufacturer, this brings out its full character, and it becomes more beautiful with every wash.

What Shimo is used for

Shimo is an airy woollen-spun yarn that is comfortable to wear without weighing you down. It suits light jumpers and cardigans, scarves and shawls. The merino wool provides warmth, and the recycled silk gives the subtle marl look. At approx. 532 m per 100 g, it belongs to the fine light fingering weight.

Knitting and tension

The manufacturer recommends 3.5 mm needles. According to the manufacturer, this gives 26 stitches over 10 cm. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Knit a tension swatch before you start and wash it the way you will care for the finished piece, as the yarn changes with washing. Wash items knitted in Shimo gently by hand. For larger projects such as a jumper, it is best to buy all the yarn you need at once so that the marl effect stays consistent.
