ITO Asa – fine lace yarn for shawls, summer clothes and as a carry-along yarn

ITO Asa is a very fine yarn in 70% linen, 17% cotton and 13% silk, for lace projects, lightweight summer clothes and accessories. Each ball weighs 25 g and, according to the manufacturer, has a length of approx. 237 m. This makes it easy to estimate how many balls a shawl or a light top needs. Choose your colour from the options.

The linen gives the yarn body, the silk adds a little sheen and the cotton makes it slightly softer. You can knit or crochet Asa as a single strand, use it doubled or hold it together with another yarn as a carry-along yarn.

What to use Asa for

Asa suits lace shawls and light scarves, as well as summer tops, T-shirts and blouses. The yarn is very fine, so it produces an airy fabric in which lace patterns show up clearly. Because Asa comes in solid colours, lace patterns and textures stand out particularly well.

Combining Asa

As a carry-along yarn, Asa gives another ITO yarn more stability, for example together with Sensai. Knitted with Kinu, it gives an attractive surface effect that suits light summer clothes. The manufacturer gives these tension swatches for combinations:

Tension and quantities

What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. As Asa has only 25 g per ball, allow enough balls for larger pieces and buy them together if possible, so that the colour stays even.
