Abig Etching Needle Holder with Wooden Handle – for Interchangeable Needles from 0.8 to 2.0 mm

The Abig etching needle holder is a wooden handle with a screw chuck, which you use to scratch fine lines, for example into printing plates for etchings. The holder is 160 mm long and sits in the hand like a thick pencil.

It comes with one double-ended, pointed angled needle. The chuck takes needles from 0.8 to 2.0 mm in diameter, so you can fit other needles later.

Fitting the needle and working

Loosen the screw chuck, slide the needle in and tighten the chuck again so the needle does not shift while you scratch. As the needle is double-ended, you can turn it round and use the other end. Hold the holder like a pencil and make a test on a spare plate first to judge the pressure and line width. For deeper lines, it is better to go over the line several times with moderate pressure than to press hard once.

Interchangeable needles

Thanks to the clamping range of 0.8 to 2.0 mm, you can later fit the holder with other needles of this size if you need finer or bolder lines.
