Lotus Yarns Cashmere D.K. is a knitting and crochet yarn in DK weight, made from 100% Mongolian cashmere. It suits soft, warm pieces such as scarves, hats, wrist warmers or fine jumpers. Cashmere is a speciality hair fibre: the fibres are very fine and insulate well. According to the manufacturer, they are approx. 16 µm fine and 34–36 mm long. The yarn comes from Inner Mongolia and is spun from the fine undercoat taken from the back and chest of the goats.

At 182 m per 55 g (approx. 331 m per 100 g), it is best to work out how much you need from the length given in your pattern. Because the fibres are light, a garment needs less weight than with many other yarns. Needles from 3.25 to 3.75 mm are recommended. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. The manufacturer states 24 stitches and 37 rows over 10 × 10 cm, in stocking stitch on 3.75 mm needles. Wash your swatch the same way you will care for the finished piece, so you can see whether the measurements change.

Care

Wash cashmere D.K. knitwear by hand in cold water and dry it flat. To freshen it, hang the piece in the fresh air.
