Atelier Zitron Gesa & Flo – fine merino baby yarn for knitting

Gesa & Flo from Atelier Zitron is a baby yarn made from 100 % virgin wool (merino) with a fineness of 16 micron. You can use it to knit baby clothes, hats, blankets and other delicate items. The fine fibres feel soft against the skin.

The yarn is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, product class 1, and is spun and dyed in Germany. One ball weighs 25 g and has a length of approx. 90 m. That works out at approx. 360 m per 100 g, which makes it a fine yarn weight (fingering). Choose your colour from the options.

What to knit with Gesa & Flo

Gesa & Flo is a solid-colour yarn. Plain wool shows textured stitch patterns such as rib, cables or lace patterns clearly, so it suits simple baby cardigans, hats or blankets with patterns. With needle size 3–3.5 mm you get a fine, soft fabric. The fine yarn weight is best suited to delicate items rather than thick winter pieces.

Tension and quantities

Knit a tension swatch first. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band (29 stitches and 40 rows over 10 × 10 cm) is only a guide. One ball weighs just 25 g and has approx. 90 m. For cardigans, blankets or larger items you will therefore need several balls. The exact amount depends on the design and size in your pattern. If possible, buy everything you need in one go from the same dye lot so the colour stays even.
