Noro Kompeito – wool-free summer yarn in silk, cotton and polyamide

Noro Kompeito is a knitting yarn for spring and summer made from 35% silk, 35% cotton and 30% polyamide. The yarn contains no wool and suits light tops, cardigans and shawls. Choose your colour from the options.

Each ball weighs 150 g and, according to the manufacturer, has a length of approx. 450 m. This makes it easy to estimate the quantity for your project in advance: compare the yarn length given in your pattern with the 450 m per ball. The yarn weight is DK (weight 3). Noro is known for colour gradients within the strand, here with a slight tweed character.

Which projects suit Kompeito?

The blend of silk and cotton gives a light, wool-free yarn that works well in warmer seasons. The polyamide content gives the yarn extra stability. It is well suited to tops, light cardigans, shawls and scarves. It is not intended for very thick, warm winter jumpers.

Needle size and tension

According to the manufacturer, you knit with needles from 3.75 to 4.5 mm and get 21–24 stitches over 10 cm. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Before you start, knit a tension swatch with the needle size given in your pattern and measure it after blocking.
