Lang Yarns Jawoll Uni – sock yarn with carry-along yarn for heel and toe

Jawoll Uni from Lang Yarns is a 4-ply sock yarn made from 75 % superwash virgin wool and 25 % polyamide. You can use it to knit socks and other items in plain colours. The polyamide content makes the yarn more hard-wearing, and the superwash finish is a practical plus for everyday wear. Each ball weighs 50 g and has a length of approx. 210 m, so you can easily work out the quantity needed for your project: 100 g is approx. 420 m.

Inside every 50 g ball there is a small spool of carry-along yarn. You can use it to reinforce the heel and toe or to darn small holes later on. According to Lang Yarns, the wool comes from Corriedale sheep in Chilean Patagonia. Choose your colour from the options.

What to use Jawoll Uni for

Plain yarn shows off textured patterns such as cables, rib or lace patterns clearly, so it is a good choice if you want your socks to have a pattern. According to Lang Yarns, the yarn is suitable for men's knitwear as well as socks. With needle size 2.5–3.5 mm you knit at the usual tension for everyday socks.

Knitting and quantities

For socks in sizes 36–42 (EU), allow approx. 100 g, which is two balls. For larger sizes or long legs, allow a little more. If possible, buy the balls together so that both socks look the same. Simply knit the carry-along yarn in with the main yarn at the heel and toe to make these high-wear areas denser. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide.

Care

According to the manufacturer, wash knitted items with a mild wool or delicates detergent and do not use fabric softener, so that the wool fibres stay supple.
