Botz 9481 Terra liquid glaze is a stone-matt effect glaze for earthenware with an earthy character. The colour range runs from beige to earthy orange. The glaze is opaque and also works well on dark clays.

If you apply Terra unevenly, you get a lively play of colour. The glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C and, according to Botz, does not tend to run even at 1100 °C. This gives you some leeway when firing, for example with pieces that have reliefs or edges where glaze would otherwise tend to collect.

Applying Terra

Stir the glaze well before use and thin it with a little water if needed. Apply it with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics. Botz specifies a bisque firing temperature of at least 950 °C. Let the coat dry thoroughly and repeat if needed.

Which effect suits your piece?

Terra is matt and earthy. If you want a lively play of colour between beige and earthy orange, apply the glaze deliberately unevenly. As the colour result depends on the clay and the thickness of the coat, a test tile made from your own clay will show you the outcome beforehand. Botz liquid glazes are available in other colours and finishes, such as matt or glossy shades. Terra is the choice if you want a warm, earthy look without shine.
