FIMO Soft – soft oven-bake modelling clay for jewellery, figures and decorations
FIMO Soft by Staedtler is a soft, oven-bake modelling clay for jewellery, figures, miniatures and decorations. After a short knead, the clay is ready to shape straight away. This makes it easy for beginners to handle, and it suits fine details as well as larger surfaces. The 57 g block is divided into 8 portions, so you only break off the amount you need. The packaging is easy to open and can be closed again. Choose your colour from the options.
You can mix colours together to create your own shades or soft colour gradients. The colour changes only slightly after hardening, so while modelling you can get a good idea of how the finished piece will look. According to Staedtler, FIMO Soft is compatible with FIMO professional and can be combined with it.
Working with and hardening FIMO Soft
Knead the portion briefly before shaping until it is pliable. The warmth of your hands is usually enough. Because the block is divided into 8 portions, it is easy to measure out and mix colours.
- Place the finished piece on a heat-resistant surface
- Preheat the oven to 110 °C (conventional, top and bottom heat) and check the temperature with an oven thermometer
- Harden the piece for 30 minutes and do not exceed this time
- Let it cool completely in the oven or afterwards before working on it further
After hardening
The hardened material is stable and can be worked further: you can paint, varnish, sand or drill it, for example for pendants and beads. Sand edges only after cooling to keep the surface clean. The slight colour change during hardening means that mixed colours you create before baking stay close to what you modelled.
