FIMO soft Basic starter pack – 12 colours of oven-bake modelling clay

The FIMO soft Basic pack from Staedtler contains 12 half blocks of oven-bake modelling clay, 25 g each (300 g in total), in assorted colours. You can use it to model jewellery, small figures and decorations and harden them in a domestic oven. The clay is soft and pliable, so it is easy to knead, even for first modelling projects. Instructions for use are included.

The twelve colours range from white through yellow, red and blue shades to black. White and black help you lighten and darken colours, and you can also mix the colours together to create your own shades. With this selection you can get started straight away, without having to put individual colours together first.

How to harden FIMO in the oven

Knead the clay by hand before shaping until it is soft and pliable. Then proceed as follows:

• Place the shaped pieces on baking paper or a heat-resistant surface
• Preheat the oven to 110 °C (conventional, top and bottom heat)
• Bake the pieces for 30 minutes, then leave to cool in the oven or in the open air
• Never raise the temperature above 130 °C, otherwise the colours may change

Tips for beginners

Ovens often deviate from the temperature set. An oven thermometer placed next to the tray shows you whether 110 °C is really reached. When mixing colours, knead them until no streaks are visible. Wash your hands when changing colour so that pigments are not transferred to light colours. Once you have used tools and surfaces for FIMO, do not use them for food again.
