Rayher assorted felting needles – three sizes for needle felting
With the Rayher assorted felting needles (art. no. 5361800) you can needle felt from the first shape to the finest detail. The bag contains three needles, one fine, one medium and one coarse, each 78 mm long. That way you do not have to buy them separately if your project has several stages.
The needles fit into a simple felting needle holder (Rayher 53623). For needle felting they are used by hand or in the holder, not in a sewing machine.
Which needle for what?
The three sizes do different jobs. The coarser the needle, the faster the wool felts, but the more visible the puncture marks remain.
- Coarse: for quick pre-felting and firming up the basic shape
- Medium: for building up structures and shapes
- Fine: for details and smooth surfaces
How to work
Place the wool on a brush mat or a piece of foam and push the needle straight in and out. Avoid bending or levering the needle sideways, so that it does not break. Start with the coarse needle, switch to the medium one to shape, and finish by smoothing with the fine needle. When needle felting, it is best to use a mat, as Rayher also recommends.
