FIMO Satin Varnish – protective satin varnish for baked FIMO pieces

FIMO satin varnish (art. no. 8705 01 BK) is a clear, water-based protective varnish that gives FIMO modelling clay a satin finish. It dries clear, is lightfast and weatherproof. The jar contains 35 ml and comes on a blister card.

Satin means that your figures, jewellery or decorative pieces get a protected surface without a strong shine. The colours of the baked clay remain visible, and the surface looks smooth and even.

Varnishing FIMO pieces

Varnish only after baking: bake the modelling clay according to the manufacturer's instructions, taking care not to exceed the stated temperature and baking time. Then leave the piece to cool completely.

• Remove dust and fingerprints from the surface.
• Apply the varnish thinly and evenly with a soft brush.
• Leave the piece to dry undisturbed until the varnish is clear with an even satin finish.
• If needed, apply a second thin coat. Thin coats run less and dry more evenly than one thick coat.
• As the varnish is water-based, you can wash the brush out with water after use, as long as the varnish has not dried.

Satin or gloss?

If you prefer a clearly glossy finish, FIMO also offers a gloss varnish in 10 ml and 35 ml. The satin varnish suits pieces where the colours and texture of the surface should stand out, such as figures, pendants or decorative items. Try the varnish first on a baked offcut to see how the level of sheen looks with your colours.
