Freezer Paper – temporarily adhesive templates for fabric and paper
Freezer paper is a coated specialist paper for sewing, quilting and crafting. You cut templates and shapes from it, iron them onto fabric and peel them off again when you have finished. The roll is 40 cm wide and 10 m long, which is approx. 4 m².
Once ironed on, the paper sticks to the fabric only temporarily and can be removed without leaving any residue. If you peel it off carefully, you can use it several times. This makes it suitable for accurate appliqué and patchwork pieces, for fabric painting and for stabilising thin textiles.
Working with freezer paper
Draw your shape on the matt side and cut it out with scissors or a cutter. Place the paper on the fabric with the coated side down and iron it on without steam. Then cut or sew along the edge of the paper; for appliqué, fold the fabric edge over the template. Finally, peel the paper off slowly. For fabric painting, the ironed-on template keeps the fabric flat and protects the areas that are to remain unpainted.
